  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 1 tbsp instant dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • powdered sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Heat milk until warm and mix with softened butter. In a bowl or stand mixer, combine this mixture with eggs, sugar, yeast, and salt. Gradually incorporate bread flour to form a dough.
  2. Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour.
  3. Mix together light brown sugar and cinnamon for the filling.
  4. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle and spread with softened butter followed by the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  5. Cut into strips, twist two strips together to form braids, and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Let rise again for about 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush twisted buns with beaten egg before baking for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
