  • 1 tsp granulated sugar for sprinkling on top
  • 1/2 cup cold butter in cubes (or vegan butter)
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup milk (any kind)
  • 1 tsp milk for top
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (or vegan butter)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sea salt, spices, and granulated sugar.
  3. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles small peas.
  4. Stir in milk and molasses until just combined.
  5. Shape dough into a circle on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush with milk.
  6. Cut into wedges and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Optionally drizzle with icing made from powdered sugar, melted butter, maple syrup, and vanilla extract.
