  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
  • 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar
  • pinch salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  2. Cream softened butter and dark brown sugar until smooth using a mixer. Beat in the egg, then add maple syrup, vanilla extract, and maple extract until well combined.
  3. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in chopped pecans if using.
  4. Chill the dough for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Roll dough into balls (about 1.5 tablespoons each) and place on prepared sheets.
  7. Bake for 12-13 minutes until lightly browned on edges; centers should still look soft.
  8. Cool on baking sheets before transferring to a wire rack.
